Greetings BAS Family and Friends

I am extremely excited to serve BAS students, parents, and community for the 2024-2025 school year as Principal.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my educational journey over the past 16 years serving as a high school and middle school math teacher and Instructional Coach/STEM Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and HR Director. I am a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education.  Shortly after obtaining my BS degree, I enrolled in Concordia University and earned my Master’s in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Mathematics. In addition to my M.Ed., I hold a Post MA Certification in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University, as well as a Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership.

I truly believe that receiving an education is one of life’s greatest achievements. Therefore, we have to continue to work towards increasing our high school and college graduation rates.  On a daily basis, I serve as a change agent and catalyst that actively challenges the status quo and ensures a “fair and equitable” education for all students.  Classrooms must be structured so they are conducive to learning. Successful learning means engaging the whole child, not just the cognitive but the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual parts.  A deep belief on the part of the teachers and school staff should be that each student has innate resilience, the capacity for healthy development and successful learning.

Educating students is a group effort that involves teachers, administrators, counselors, parents, and the community.  Parental involvement and engagement is vital to ensure students are successful and remain focused on their educational goals. Therefore, stakeholders should be comfortable with communicating with BAS faculty and staff, respectfully, to address questions or concerns to ensure the growth and success of ALL students.

I get inconceivable joy in seeing the difference teachers make as students gain new insights, become more interested in curriculum, and learn more about themselves. Every day, I feel educators can mold the future of students through impacting their views and understandings.  In an ideal classroom, creativity is fostered and character is shaped. Students are given lenses with which to view the world that will provide them with the skills they need to reach their potential and lead productive lives.

I am looking forward to serving the BAS faculty, staff, students, parents, and community.  Together, WE can make a difference!
